how are you handling the winter flu season?

What about the flu?

The only portals of entry are the nostrils and mouth/throat. In a global epidemic of this nature, it's almost impossible to avoid coming into contact with H1N1 in spite of all precautions.

Contact with H1N1 is not so much of a problem as proliferation is.

While you are still healthy and not showing any symptoms of H1N1 infection, in order to prevent proliferation, aggravation of symptoms and development of secondary infections, some very simple steps, not fully highlighted in most official communications, can be practiced (instead of focusing on how to stock N95 or Tamiflu):

1. Frequent hand-washing (well highlighted in all official communications).

2. "Hands-off-the-face" approach. Resist all temptations to touch any part of face (unless you want to eat or bathe.)

3. Gargle twice a day with warm salt water (use Listerine or Hydrogen Peroxide if you don't trust salt). *H1N1 takes 2-3 days after initial infection in the throat/ nasal cavity to proliferate and show characteristic symptoms. Simple gargling prevents proliferation. In a way, gargling with salt water has the same effect on a healthy individual that Tamiflu has on an infected one. Don't underestimate this simple, inexpensive and powerful preventative method.
I would recommend Colloidal Silver and/or Taheebo for your gargle. Also use Taheebo when you feel something, such as a tickle in your throat.

4. Similar to 3 above, clean your nostrils at least once every day with warm salt water, or hydrogen peroxide. Not everybody may be good at using a NetiPot, but blowing the nose softly once a day and swabbing both nostrils with cotton buds dipped in warm salt water is very effective in bringing down viral population.
You can use Colloidal Silver for your nasal swab, or just take Colloidal Silver when you have been around a lot of sick people.

5. Boost your natural immunity with foods that are rich in Vitamin C (Amla and other citrus fruits). If you have to supplement with Vitamin C tablets, make sure that it also has Zinc to boost absorption.
You can increase your consumption of Body Balance to at least 8 ounces each day for adults and Taheebo several times throughout the day as it also supports your immune system and has anti-viral properties.

6. Drink as much of warm liquids (tea, coffee, etc) as you can. Drinking warm liquids has the same effect as gargling, but in the reverse direction. They wash off proliferating viruses from the throat into the stomach where they cannot survive, proliferate or do any harm.
(Drinking freshly squeezed, hot lemon water is an option that has other health benefits as well.)

new film: Food, Inc.

Food Inc.
My family went to this film. It is very good.

The trailer talks about tomatoes and they say in the film "farming has changed more in the last 50 years" than all time before or something like that. They did a whole thing on corn and how it is chemically used in nearly all processed foods, changing it chemically into hundreds of different chemicals they put in our food. It follows the money for the corn.

They did not talk about nutrition per se, BUT did explain how Type 2 Diabetes is up in kids; how the cheap food and the demand for cheap food is making Americans sick. Families have to watch money and most won't pay for the fruits, veg, raw food when a dollar menu can fill them up cheaper (thus creating the higher and higher statistics on diabetes). This film is worth seeing.

There was very upsetting info on soybean seeds and that they are now "owned" by Monsanto company, and that farmers can't save their seed from year to year. I sort of remember something of this legislation a while back, but did not understand its impact to have genetically altered seeds owned by their developers and the long range impact on farmers.

The bulk of the info in the film was on the meat industry, but I knew most of that except for the e-coli connections which explains why we now get tainted food.

hello again

My busy season for home schooling is in the spring, so I have not written much about health or my wellness business since April or May, but back in the swing now.

Everyone needs to address the nutritional deficiencies in the American diet today, especially in light of building your immune system to stay well. We need the best source of nutrients for optimum health.

Looking at the mess in the health care, YOU are the only one that can control your own health. Don't ask the doctor to "cure" something when you are not willing to help yourself. And, most doctors today only fix, not cure; and, certainly know even less concerning keeping you healthy or building up your system.

There is a lot to worry about if you choose to worry....Lyme, autoimmune diseases, flu, MRSA, etc. I just read they (whomever they are) are predicting more swine flu in the coming year. So, do not choose to worry! Become proactive and get your body as healthy as possible as it is designed to heal and take care of itself if YOU give it care AND proper nutrients with which to work.
